Acquisition cost is a symptom, not a diagnosis
Rising CAC is usually treated as a media problem. Broken down properly, it is often an offer, margin or conversion problem wearing a media costume.

Decomposing the number
CAC is an output of at least four inputs: auction cost, click-through behaviour, on-site conversion and the share of buyers who would have arrived anyway. Optimising media when the movement came from conversion is how teams spend a quarter fixing the wrong variable.
What to check first
Compare cost per click, conversion rate and average order value across the same period. Whichever moved most is where the investigation belongs. If none moved much, the mix likely shifted toward a more expensive audience.
